March - What's looking good in the Garden this month?

Helleborus x hybridus - found throughout the gardens as part of the National Collection.  Low growing perennial.  Flowers February - March

Helleborus foetidus (Stinking hellebore) - tearoom patio and throughout the gardens as part of the National Collection.  One of the two ‘English' native hellebores.  An excellent garden plant that is easy to grow.  Flowers February - March

Pulmonaria ‘Blue Mist' - long borders 3.  (Lungwort) An evergreen, low growing plant.  The leaves are dappled with cream spots.  Masses of pale blue flowers March - April  Semi shade.

Chionodoxa ‘Pink Giant' - long borders 3.  (Glory of the Snow)  Early flowering bulb that creates a carpet of flowers when planted liberally.  Full sun.  Flowers March

Daphne bholua ‘Peter Smithers' - studio garden 21.  A quick growing semi evergreen shrub, reaching 2m.  Masses of highly scented flowers January - March

Daphne odora ‘aureomarginata' - Italian Garden 9.  A popular,early flowering, evergreen shrub.  The leaves have a cream edge to them.  Highly scented, purple/pink flowers, December - March.  Max height and Spread 1.5m  Prefers a sheltered spot, in partial shade.

Camellia japonica ‘Pink Perfection' - Italian Garden 9.  Evergreen, upright shrub. Pink double flowers February - March.  Max Height 2m Max Spread 1.8m  Requires ericaceous soil/compost (Lime free)

Cornus ‘Midwinter Fire' - Long Borders 3 (Dogwoods) Deciduous shrub, grown mainly for their colourful, bright red, winter stems.  Max Height 3m Max Spread2.5m Full sun.  Frost hardy
