Canna - Indian Shot Plant. Perennial with bold dark green foliage. Iris-like, bright red or orange flowers. Max Height 2m. Max Spread 50cm. Flowers July to October.  Can be found in the Subtropical Effect Garden

Musa basjoo - Japanese Banana. A very handsome plant with large green leaves and creamy-yellow flowers with brown bracts. Max height 3.5m. Max spread 1.6m. Flowers July. Fruits October.  This hardy banana makes a striking addition to any exotic garden. Can be found in the Subtropical Effect Garden

Kniphofia - Red Hot Poker. A clump-forming perennial with narrow grass-like, arching leaves. Flower spikes of buff-tinted, pale yellow, opening from pale green buds ageing to ivory. Max Height 60cm. Max Spread 45cm Can be found in the long border

Dahlia 'David Howard'- A superb dahlia with dark green leaves. Double apricot-orange flowers. Max Height 80cm. Max Spread 45cm. Flowers July to October. Can be found in the Subtropical Effect Garden

Hemerocallis - Daylily. A clump-forming perennial with handsome, sword-shaped arching leaves. Large red flowers in summer. Max Height 80cm. Max Spread 45cm. Flowers June to August. Full sun. Hardy. Can be found in large drifts next to the Sandell Lake

Perovskia ‘Blue Spire' - An upright shrub with deeply cut silver-grey leaves and spikes of violet-blue flowers in late summer and early autumn. Max Height 1.2m. Max Spread 1m. Flowers July to September. Full Sun. Hardy. Can be found in the Grasses Garden

Mina lobata (Ipomoea lobata) -Planted to run through other plants this annual climber has flowers that fade from pink to white. Can be found in the long border.

Gunnera manicata - A very large architectural plant with massive deeply lobed bristly green leaves on strong prickly tall leaf stems. Greenish red tiny flowers on a conical flower spike, followed by red-green fruit. Max height 2.5m. Max spread 3m to 4m. Flowers June to July. Fruits July to August. Full sun/partial shade. Hardy. Can be found on the banks of the Sandell Lake.
