July - Monthly Garden Tips
To keep your garden looking its best, now is the time to
deadhead flowers as they fade and replace them with new plants for instant
colour. Your container plants will need
to be fed and watered, using saucers underneath the container in order to
conserve water. Whilst the weather is
dry and fences and exterior woodwork should be treated to ensure longevity and
ponds cleared of algae and weed build up.
There is a lot to harvest in your vegetable patch, including
new potatoes, carrots, salad crops, spinach and onions. Any courgettes should be picked before they
ripen into marrows. To prepare for the
winter, leeks and brassicas should be sown alongside turnips, fennel and spring
cabbage.
