February - What's looking good in the Garden this month?

Helleborus x hybridus - found throughout the gardens as part of the National Collection.  Low growing perennial.  Flowers February - March

Helleborus foetidus (Stinking hellebore) - tearoom patio and throughout the gardens as part of the National Collection.  One of the two ‘English' native hellebores.  An excellent garden plant that is easy to grow.  Flowers February - March

Galanthus ‘S.Arnott' and Galanthus ‘Atkinsii' - long borders 3.  Snowdrops.  Easily grown.  Flowers  February.

Daphne bholua ‘Peter Smithers' - studio garden 21.  A quick growing semi evergreen shrub, reaching 2m.  Masses of highly scented flowers January - March
 
Prunus serrula - long borders 3.  A small, vigorous tree, with polished red-brown bark.  Flowers late April

Hamamelis x intermedia ‘Sunburst' - dry garden 20.  Witch hazel.  Upright shrub.  Flowers February.  Height 3m Spread 5m

Salix alba  - winter stem beds 19.  Willow.  Grown for their stem colour in winter.  Can reach 15m if not pruned.

Sarcococca confusa - tearoom patio.  Christmas box.  Evergreen shrub.   Highly scented flowers.  Height 1m  Spread 1m   Flowers January - February

Cornus - Winter Stem beds (19) Dogwoods.  Deciduous. Grown mainly for their colourful winter stems.  Max Height 3m Max Spread2.5m Full sun.  Frost hardy
