Deck the halls with bells and holly!  Ornamental foliage should be collected for seasonal displays and colour can be added to the front of the house using heathers, skimmias and Christmas roses.   You will need to check that your greenhouse heater is working properly and prevent any ponds or birdbaths from freezing over.

Now is the time to start the formative pruning of young, free-standing, fruit trees and bushes (under three years old) and dig over vacant areas of the vegetable patch to incorporate soil improvers.    Fruit trees should be sprayed to prevent insect pests and the bark checked against rabbit or squirrel damage.
