April - What's looking good in the Garden this month?
Pulmonaria ‘Blue Mist' (Lungwort). An
evergreen, low growing plant. The leaves
are dappled with cream spots. Masses of
pale blue flowers between March and April, however it prefers semi shade.
Chionodoxa ‘Pink Giant' (Glory of the
Snow). An early flowering bulb that creates a carpet of flowers when planted
liberally. Flowers in March, and prefers
full sun.
Daphne bholua ‘Peter Smithers'. A quick growing semi evergreen shrub,
reaching 2m. Masses of highly scented
flowers which come into their own between January and March.
Daphne odora ‘aureomarginata'. A popular, early flowering, evergreen shrub
with leaves which have a cream edge to them.
The highly scented, purple/pink flowers are visible December to March. Max height and spread of 1.5m and it prefers
a sheltered spot, in partial shade.
Camellia japonica ‘Pink
Perfection'. An Evergreen, upright shrub
with Pink double flowers which are at
their best between February and March.
Max Height 2m Max Spread 1.8m.
For best results it requires lime free ericaceous soil/compost.
Cornus ‘Midwinter Fire' (Dogwoods). This
Deciduous shrub is grown mainly for their colourful, bright red, winter
stems. Frost hardy it will reach a max height
of 3m and a max spread of 2.5m It requires full sun.
